ENF Workshop Emphasizes the Importance of Community Service to its Scholars

Amman - October 2009
Building on its commitment to youth, the Elia Nuqul Foundation (ENF) recently organized an event in collaboration with the Princess Basma Youth Resource Center (PBYRC) with the objective of enlightening scholars about the importance of effective engagement in community service. The event gathered ENF’s scholars, staff and representatives of its strategic partners - the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development’s Goodwill Campaign, and Al Aman Fund for the Future of Orphans.
The commitment to community service is a requirement to receiving the ENF scholarships because ENF believes in the importance of exposing scholars to opportunities and tools that will help them become social contributors and mobilizers in their communities.
Facilitated by Mr. Mahmoud Kharouf, a trainer at PBYRC, the interactive sessions cultivated students’ understanding and interest in community service, which was followed by success stories presented by youth highlighting the impact of community service upon their lives, and in the communities they reside in throughout the Kingdom.
During the event, Ms. Deena Kalimat Tugoz, ENF Director commented, “ENF strives to instill a culture of “giving back” to the community in our students. Community service is vital, and it will allow our youth to know their capabilities and responsibilities, and enhance their sense of belonging, loyalty and commitment to their community.”
Additionally, ENF established the Fellowship Network Committee comprised of its scholars. The students will be responsible for overseeing the activities of the Network in collaboration with the ENF staff.
It is envisioned that the network will become an active platform for the sharing of expertise, and creating links amongst ENF students so they may not only assist each other, but assist future ENF scholars.
Fatima Al Kaisi, a Business Administration student at Al Balqa’ Applied University, said: “I didn’t realize the importance of community service, until I attended today’s session. Now, I am confident that this concept will expand my horizons and help me to become an active and responsible member striving to create an impact in my community with the help of the people around me.”
“The session was very encouraging and I am sure it will change my life” Fatima added.
